Reduction of poverty and social risks it causes has an importance on global level and studies and projects about this field continue to increase exponentially. In this sense, the year 2010 was announced to be the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. An international symposium named “Poverty Alleviation Strategies: Experiences and New Ideas” is going to be organized in Istanbul on 13-15 October 2010 by T.R Prime Ministry General Directorate of Social Assistance and Solidarity which is the main actor in the field of fight against poverty in Turkey.

The aim of the symposium is to bring together representatives of governments, local authorities, relevant public institutions, NGOs, universities and international organizations to share knowledge and experiences about combating poverty and to discuss new ways to solve the problem of poverty. The symposium is expected to contribute to discussion of policies and implementations about fight against poverty and to development of cooperation opportunities at national and international level.
